Dodgertown West
Southern Cuba Trip
Holguin, Las Tunas, Bayamo, Santiago, Guantanamo, Baracoa
February 16-23, 2005

This tour flies directly to Santiago from Miami, spend 3 nights in Holguin and the remaining nights in Santiago.  There are 1 day trips to other cities for games and tours.  It features 6 baseball games and attending 1 professional baseball game in Santiago, schedule permitting. Santiago is the 2nd largest city in Cuba and the heart of the Afro-Cuban music. We'll play in at least 5 different cities and provinces.

This is new territory for all of us as we have never played in this part of the country.  Southern or Eastern Cuba is a beautiful part of the island.  There are lots of mountains in the Santiago area creating some of the most picturesque areas including waterfalls and beaches.  It is also where most the coffee is grown.

The baseball games are all against Cuban Veterans, most of which are former professional players.  You'll find them to be excellent players and wonderful hosts.
We'll play our 1st game in Holguin against local veteran players .  The 2nd day we'll have a short trip to Las Tunas for a game and the 3rd day, we'll play in Bayamo on our way to Santiago

In Santiago, we'll play local teams and have a trip to Guantanamo for a game.  Time permitting, we may travel to Baracoa for a game.  Baracoa is one of the most beautiful parts of the island.  It's where they grow cocoa and has a chocolate factory.

We'll be playing in both small rural towns and large city stadiums.

Las Tunas
The Cuban people are very warm hearted, congenial and easy to make friends with.  Some of our games will be in professional stadiums, others will be in smaller local stadiums and parks.  Don't be surprised if we have hundreds of people in attendance at some of the smaller towns.  They often let the kids out of school to watch us play and many times have official ceremonies.

Christopher Columbus landed in Holguín and immediately said that it was the most beautiful land ever seen by human eyes.

Afternoons and evenings we'll see the sites of these beautiful 16th-18th century Spanish/French Colonial cities before we return to our hotel for dinner and entertainment.  Each day will be different and each day will be an adventure.

Guantanamo and Baracoa
This trip is a lot more than baseball.  It is a cultural exchange between the people of the USA and Cuban nationals.  Baseball is a common link between our 2 nations and it is a medium by which we can share and experience each others culture.  Your view point on Cuba will never be the same.

All breakfasts, most dinners and lunches are included. Tours, tour bus, guide are all included through Havanaturs.  The actual order of events and locations may vary depending on local schedules.
